Shamus’ Journey
Shamus's career path had many twists and turns before leading him to his role as a manager on the Assurance Innovation team at MNP. After working in the restaurant industry from ages 16 to 23, he joined the Armed Forces as an armoured crewman in Calgary. His work took him across Canada before he decided to change lanes.
Unsure of his next move, Shamus enrolled in the business program at The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, where he discovered his knack for accounting. His current focus is on leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance workflows and optimize efficiency within MNP.
Shamus reflects, “If I’m working on something that needs to get done, I’ll get it done.” The discipline he learned in the Armed Forces has helped him succeed as a CPA, emphasizing leadership and teamwork.
Henry’s Growth
Henry is the Senior Manager of Risk Services at PwC Canada, helping clients navigate governance, risk, and compliance needs. Since starting as an intern in 2018, he has explored new business areas while building strong relationships that support his growth.
“Mentorship has been a huge part of my journey,” he explains. At PwC, he appreciates the supportive culture that helps him explore technologies impacting financial reporting, such as AI and cybersecurity. He also finds community within the PwC Black Professionals’ Inclusion Network, inspiring him to take on leadership roles.
Future-Forward
Both Shamus and Henry enjoy the benefits of their CPA careers, including career flexibility, skill development, and continuous learning. “Being a CPA pushes me to stay on top of industry trends and develop new skills,” says Henry.
Shamus, who embraces life's uncertainties, feels reassured about a bright future as a CPA. “I never knew I’d be a CPA or working with AI. We have a bright future based on what we’re doing.”
