Reporting to the Director, Downtown Economy, this key position plays a vital role in advancing economic development within Edmonton's downtown core. You will be instrumental in implementing strategic initiatives and fostering relationships that drive investment and support the growth of our city's heart.This role demands a collaborative and creative individual with the ability to navigate complex programs and provide insightful guidance for corporate decision-making. Your political acumen, interpersonal skills, and strategic thinking will be essential as you manage multiple priorities and support downtown investments. You will also lead and develop a customer-focused team dedicated to achieving results and building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.What will you do?
- Manage the implementation and promotion of downtown strategies, policies, and plans
- Actively respond to inquiries related to investments in downtown Edmonton and provide strategic support for economic development activities
- Utilize influence to drive change, build cohesive teams, and successfully implement strategic plans
- Lead the development of the downtown business plan, aligning strategies with corporate and departmental goals
- Develop and implement key project documents, such as charters, terms of reference, and project plans
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for Department Leadership, Executive Leadership, and City Council
- Lead a team to achieve objectives related to the Downtown Action Plan
- Engage and support staff in developing work plans to enhance communication and problem-solving
- Develop and implement staff performance development and management plans, including recruitment and selection
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support organizational goals
- Support projects and initiatives that enhance the City's reputation and improve communication about downtown Edmonton
- Lead governance structure development and chair working groups as required
Qualifications:
- Knowledge, training and/or education in Business/Commerce, Public Administration, or Economics
- Experience in progressive leadership roles with the ability to react successfully to ambiguous and complex business issues and opportunities
Assets:
- Project Management Professional
- Change Management Certification

- Exceptional business acumen and ability to manage multi-party stakeholder interests while achieving strategic direction and outcomes
- Ability to develop and maintain effective strategic relationships within a municipal setting and external partnerships including other orders of government
- Superior skills to mediate and negotiate results to satisfy staff, other departmental representatives, and other external stakeholders
- Strong strategic business planning and evaluation skills
- Innovative, creative thinker with a strong commitment to results
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to write and present Council and Committee reports and correspondence related to strategic and emerging sector opportunities and challenges

Work environment and conditions of employment:
- Up to: 1 permanent, full-time position
- Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday
- Salary Range: $102,590- $128,237 (Annually)
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
- This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
- Management and Out-of-Scope positions at the City of Edmonton are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the Civic Service Union 52 bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly
